Our first-grade classes create an informational book about an animal that they research each year in May. Using lessons from their First Grade Getting Ready to Write guides, they increased their vocabulary when writing about the way their animals move. They used the No Go words out of the guide to get started. Then, we charted other ideas that the students had to explain the movements that the animals make, rather than just saying walk, swim, or fly.
Look at these AMAZING student samples and how the vocabulary makes such a big difference in their sample!
