Our first grade classes create an expository book about an animal that they research each year in May. This year, my class teamed up to help them increase their vocabulary when writing about the way their animals move. We used the No Go words out of the K-1 Empowering Writers guide to help get us started. Then, we charted other ideas that the students had to explain the movements that the animals make.
Look at these AMAZING student samples and how the vocabulary makes such a big difference in their sample!
