Your students will be responding to literature using the literary elements reference sheet along with sentence starters to help them frame up their responses in a creative way. They’ll start by annotating and analyzing a narrative story and then identify the literary elements used by the author including some challenge elements like foreshadowing, alliteration and figurative language. We’ve used the book, The Whipping Boy, by Sid Fleischman, but this same lesson procedure can be used with literature of your choice.
